Social Work As A Practice And The History Of The Reformers...
This paper will include a description of social work as a practice and the history of the reformers that helped create the very career itself. In this section, I will include topics such as the mission, goals, and purpose of a social worker and attributes of the profession. Next, I will discuss the definition and the elements of General Practice in the field. This section will include examples from the lifestyle paper written previously in the year. For this paper, I was required to visit a place of practice which I will discuss towards the end of paper and with this the interview I conducted with the social worker of that particular field. Lastly, the paper is summarized with my own opinion on working within the field of social work. ââ¬Å"The field of social work involves working actively to change the social, cultural, psychological, and larger societal conditions that most individuals, families, groups, and communities face.â⬠(Oââ¬â¢Hare, 2009, as cited in Colby, I.C., Dziegielewski, S.F., 2016). Social work can almost be described as a peopleââ¬â¢s profession due to its devotion to the well-being and success of people from every background and nature. Though social work can be described as many things, the mission of social work is within a set of core values. As stated by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Board of Delegates in 1996, there are six core values that social workers live by (socialworkers.org, 2008). These values were revised by the Board in 2008.Show MoreRelatedEssay about History: World War I and Bold Experiments7600 Words à |à 31 PagesBold Experiments in an Era ofà Industrialization,à 1877ââ¬â1929 This part covers the following chapters in Henretta et al., Americaââ¬â¢s History, Seventh Edition: Chapterà 17à The Busy Hive: Industrial America at Work, 1877ââ¬â1911 Chapter 18 The Victorians Meet the Modern, 1880ââ¬â1917 Chapter 19 ââ¬Å"Civilizationââ¬â¢s Infernoâ⬠: The Rise and Reform of Industrial Cities, 1880ââ¬Å ââ¬â1917 Chapter 20 Whose Government? We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing Environmental Analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now 1. The political area has huge impact on the operation of the firms(e. g. tax, business law, political stability) 2. The economic condition can also directly influence the general performance of the company(e. g. conomy depression, interest rate, exchange rate, inflation rate) 3. As for social factors, by fundamentally determining the target market, it can also be essential for the success or failure of strategies. (e. g. religion, culture, demographic issue) 4. Finally, the technological factors are becoming the majority for mostly organization, which can increasing the benefit as well as decreasing the time and cost. (e. g. the pace of technologies change, incentive of technology) Usually prior to competing SWOT, PEST helps to spot the four elements for better understanding the macroenvironment faced by firms. After analyzing the four factors, it is important for company to identify the key drivers for change, thus focus on that to shape its strategies. Meanwhile, by scanning the general environment, co. can therefore also detect weak signals that make the discontinuity of the environment, which may fundamentally change the competitive environment (Johnson et al, 2011). Ginter and Duncan (1990) argue that macro-environment analysis can act as an early-warning system by giving org. time to anticipate opportunities and threats and develop appropriate response. SWOT is structured planned method used to evaluated strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats. By using matching and converting, company can either find or develop their competitive advantages. Matching is used to find competitive advantages by matching the strengths to opportunities. Converting is to apply conversion strategies to convert weaknesses or threats into strengths or opportunities. Porterââ¬â¢s five forces analysis is a framework for industry analysis and business strategy development formed by Michael E. Porter at 1979. More precise than PEST, it helps the industrial organization to illustrate the competition intensity in competitive environment (microenvironment) thus decide the attractiveness of specific market. Combining three analysis In corporate strategies level, all three of them can be used to audit the marketing environment in order to get a systematic, critical and unbiased appraisal of its operation. (where is the co. now, where does the co. want to go and how should the co. rganize its resources to get there) In business strategy level, it also important that because of the increasingly rate of change in market environment, three of the analysis need to achieve contingent approach to shape the strategies to avoid overcome by competitors. Example: PEST e. g. construction firm: operating on narrow profit margin, react to change I interest rate. Johnson Johnson: baby-care product, react to change in birth rate, thus change the target market to adult female(being kind and gentle to womanââ¬â¢s skin as well as that of babies) SWOT A consultancy firm S: Reputation, expertise W: Unable to deal with multi-disciplinary assignments because of size or lack of ability O: Well established position with a well defined market niche T: Other small consultancies looking to invade the marketplace Five forces Coca-cola: Present a detailed analysis of the various positioning strategies that may be pursued by a firm (20 marks). What are the keys to successful positioning (30 marks)? 1. Positioning is to shape the org. o suits the preferences of customers and lead to high consumer loyalty thus building a powerful brand. 2. Market mix, perceptual map 3. There are two levels of positioning strategies: a. Business level strategies (Brand positioning) Business level strategies are positioning the org. among other org. It is market oriented and can be either market-wide or directed at a particular market (niche approach). b. Generic business strategies (Porter)ââ¬â (competitive advantages) 4. Key to successful market positioning a. A well-positioned brand should appeal to the particular needs of a customer segment because a differential advantage proposition is created. b. There are four key dimensions for a successful positioning: Clarity, Consistency (Favorability), Competitiveness (differentiation), Credibility (Explainâ⬠¦.. ) c. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of brand-positioning strategies, there are three components we need to consider: intended position, actually position and perceived position. Perceived position is the most important, which will lead to the above-normal performance of the corporate. According to research, benefit positioning and user position is more effective than feature positioning and direct benefit positioning is more effective than indirect benefit positioning (Fuchs et al, 2009). d. To keep the brand equity, repositioning is very important. We need to realize that positioning is a ongoing process. Competitive advantage is positioning of a single offering in relation to a unique set of potential customers and competitors. For an organization to achieve consistently above-normal market performance, it must create a sustainable competitive advantage (Aaker, 1989). The logic of SCA is that a buyer to purchase offering X, the buyer must perceive the expected utility to him of that offering exceeds the value to him of any alternative solution, that is it must create superior value for its customers. The basis of competitive advantage is increasing the benefit receive by the customers or decreasing the cost. Which lead to different strategic focus on either low cost or differentiation (additional product benefits). So competitive advantages can be porterââ¬â¢s generic strategies or market orientation. Swifts ââ¬ËGullivers Travelââ¬â¢ and Voltaires ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢ Essay Example
Swifts ââ¬ËGullivers Travelââ¬â¢ and Voltaires ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢ Essay Swiftââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËGulliverââ¬â¢s Travelââ¬â¢ and Voltaireââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢ are typical literature works during the Enlightenment period. Both authors use satire in their works. Satire is literary form which means irony. Therefore, they have some similarities. They both want to expose human vices through satiric tone. Due to different personal styles, there are many differences between two novels. Two novels use satire to criticize human weakness. In ââ¬ËGulliverââ¬â¢s Travelââ¬â¢, Swift makes up a horse society Houyhnhnm and a brutal animal Yahoo. Gulliver has to admit that human beings are yahoos after a series comparison between human and yahoo. Vices of human beings are exposed by the Swiftââ¬â¢s satiric tone. In ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢, Voltaire presents a story of the voyage of Candide. By describing how Candide travel around the world and the ridiculous circumstances he encounters, Voltaire also use satire to reveals the corruption of human beings. Both of them follow the philosophic thinking which is passion verses reason. They are questioning human nature. Whatââ¬â¢s more, both authors create an inexistent society by imagination, horse society Houyhnhnm and gold city Eldorado. By comparing to reality world, the civilization of imaginary societies is more rational for human beings. This is how satire works. Creating a perfect world and comparing to corrupted society, itââ¬â¢s easier to convince readers. Satire is the tool of two authors presents their essential purposes that criticize the human weakness and questioning the human nature. The differences between two novels are significant. In ââ¬ËGulliverââ¬â¢s travelââ¬â¢, Swift emphasizes the process how Gulliver realizes that he is a yahoo. No matter Gulliver description about the war among the princes of Europe, Queen Anne, and a first minister in the courts of Europe, or masterââ¬â¢s observation about the characteristics of yahoos, Swift uses a strong critical tone to point out the vices of human beings. Gulliver uses tone of solemnity to explain how the yahoo and human have in common. Ironically, Gulliver insists to refuse his status of yahoo, the procedure of Gulliverââ¬â¢s acceptation to the status of yahoo is under a depressed atmosphere. When Gulliver backs home, he is still struggling to be a rational creature in his mind which is Houyhnhnm or to be a corrupted creature which is yahoo. Swiftââ¬â¢s sharp criticism makes the novel isnââ¬â¢t as fun as ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢. However, it makes reader think over the purpose of his criticism. On the contrary, Voltaireââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢ is full of black humor. Although Candide goes through a lot of ridiculous circumstances and suffers a lot, the unexpected content makes his voyage funny. In ââ¬ËGulliverââ¬â¢ Travelââ¬â¢, the observation of horse society and comparison between yahoo and human are important components of Swiftââ¬â¢s satire. In ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢, every character expresses the satiric tone of Voltaire. Pangloss, teacher of Candide, always believe that ââ¬Å"Everything is for the best in this best of all possible worldâ⬠, escapes from death several times. He still insists his philosophic thinking which exactly brings him in trouble. Cunegondeââ¬â¢s brother constantly refuses Candide marry with his sister even Cunegonde isnââ¬â¢t beautiful anymore. Other characters like Cunegonde, the old lady, Martin, they all have been through a lot of misfortune circumstances. Each character has its own function to from Voltaireââ¬â¢s satire. Volvaire uses his tone of mockery to present a ridiculous voyage of Candide and reveal to us world is cruel place. The witness makes Candideââ¬â¢s voyage delight even they suffer a lot of misfortune. Readers easily convinced by their ridicules encounters. Satire is main method used in Swiftââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËGulliverââ¬â¢s travelââ¬â¢ and Voltaireââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËCandideââ¬â¢. As typical literature during enlightenment period, both novels are questioning about human nature. Swiftly uses critical tone to represent his idea. Voltaire uses humor to reflect the corruption of human beings. Two novels not only succeed to present the readers then about purpose of authors; but also are great treasure for readers now.
